June 19 2012 The Santa Fe Fuego defeated the Las Cruces Vaqueros 21-18 in a high-scoring game at Fort Marcy Park. Santa Fe collected 21 hits and overcame two errors while Las Cruces finished with 22 hits without an error.
Santa Fe built a 13-8 lead through five innings and extended the margin to 18-14 after six. Las Cruces scored four times in the eighth to tie the game at 18-18 before the Fuego pushed across three runs in the ninth for the deciding margin.
Chris Wakefield led Santa Fe with three hits and six RBI including a home run. Evan Kohli went 4-for-4 and scored four runs while Scot Palmer added three hits and a home run. Greg Perret contributed a home run and three RBI and Justin Trejo homered while driving in two runs.
Las Cruces received three-hit games from Steve Rinaudo Ryan Lauer Trevor Whyte Will Stramp and Patrick Nolan. Rinaudo homered and drove in three runs while Jimmy Parque hit a home run and collected four RBI. Santa Fe reliever Jared Bowser earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings allowing two hits. Las Cruces reliever Rich McNeal took the loss after allowing three runs in one-third of an inning.
