May 27 2012 The Las Cruces Vaqueros defeated the Roswell Invaders 10-8 at Central Park after building an early lead and holding off a late Roswell comeback. Las Cruces scored twice in the second inning, three times in the third and three more in the fifth to take an 8-0 advantage. The Vaqueros added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, while Roswell scored once in the seventh, three times in the eighth and four times in the ninth.
Las Cruces collected 15 hits, led by Trevor Whyte and Randy Wells with three apiece. Whyte went 3-for-5 with three runs, a home run and two RBI, while Wells also went 3-for-5. Sal Rivera added three hits and two RBI, and Ryan Lauer had two hits, two walks and an RBI. Roswell finished with seven hits, including home runs by Josh Cakebread and Reggie Taylor. Brycen Bell drove in three runs for the Invaders, while Taylor added two RBI.
Erik Gonsalves earned the win for Las Cruces after allowing two hits and four runs in 7.1 innings, with three walks and three strikeouts. Alfonso Cardenas retired both batters he faced, and Rich McNeal recorded the save despite allowing five hits and four runs in one inning. Roswell starter Anthony Machado took the loss after surrendering 10 hits and eight earned runs in 4.1 innings, with four walks and two strikeouts.
